Drums (WMC Compiled)

Module 1 (6 months)

Introduction to Drums: The Students will be introduced to various components and hardware which constitute the Drum kit
Setting up the Drum Kit: The Students will be taught how to dismantle and re arrange a Drum Kit. They will be taught how to align the seat (Throne) properly so as to achieve an optimum position for comfortable and sustained playing.
Holding the Drum Stick and Brush: Students will be taught proper techniques of holding the Drum Sticks, Brushes, Mallets & Rutes
Introduction to Drum Basics: Students will be taught musical aspects like common time signature, value of the beats (whole note, half note etc) & insight into drum staff reading techniques
Basic hands Free exercise: Students will taught rudiments such as single stroke, double stroke, single paradiddles and double paradiddles
Basic Grooves: Students will be taught to play grooves in common time signature such as 4/4, 2/4 etc
Students will be taught to play songs on the same time signature practically at the end of module 1.
Semester 1 : This will be a comprehensive test of the what the student has achieved in the first Semester. Students will be allowed to progress to the next semester only after approval from the faculty.

Module 2 (8 months)

Introduction to Odd Time Signature: Students will progress to learn Odd time signatures such as 3/4, 3/8, 6/4, 6/8, 5/4 and 7/4
Hands Free Exercises & Paradiddle Exersises
Triplet Exercises: Students will learn the concept of Triplets and combining common time with triplets
Waltz Grooves: Students will be Introduced to the Waltz beat and they will practice various Waltz Styles such as Riding Cymbals
Blues Grooves: Students will be introduced to the blues genre and various styles associated with blues
6/4-6/8 Time Signature: This will cover a detailed explanation of the 6/4 and 6/8 time signatures and various rhythm patterns like Foxtrot, Criss Cross Afro, Afro Cuban, Baila & Arabic/Persian grooves
Students will be taught to play songs on the same time signature and Groves at the end of module 2.
Semester 2: This will be a comprehensive test of the what the student has achieved in the second Semester. Students will be allowed to progress to the next semester only after approval from the faculty

Module 3 (9 months)

Advanced Odd Time Signatures: Students will progress to complex odd time signatures in practicals and skating like 5/4, 7/4. They will learn detailed calculations and manipulation of these odd signatures.
Advanced Hands free exercises: Students will learn to convert the common time into odd rhythm patterns in free style like world music rhythm styles.
Controlling the Drumsticks & Accents: This module will cover the dynamics of playing and how to control the drumsticks in order to give proper accents.
Introduction to Rolls & Fill-ins: Students will be introduced to various styles of drum rolls and drum fills, patterns like Jazz Riding & Jazz Groves like 4 stroke, 5 stroke buzz roll, drags etc.
Students will be taught to play songs on the same time signature and Groves at the end of module 3.
Semester 3: This will be a comprehensive test of the what the student has achieved in the third Semester. Students will be allowed to progress to the next semester only after approval from the faculty.

Module 4 (10 months)

Introduction to Indian Percussions: Students will be introduced to Indian percussion instruments and various percussion styles.
Introduction to Advanced Time Signature: Students will be able to understand complex time signature calculations like 9/8, 10/8, 11/8 and combination of 8 beats and above.
Independence Exercises: Students will learn independence exercise like 2 way, 3 way & 4 way independence.
Conversion of Paradiddles : This module will enable students to make complex grooves from paradiddles.
Body Language: Student will be taught behavioural aspects of drumming and how to engage the crowd and gel with other band members.
Solo & Accompaniment Performance: Students will be taught how to construct Solo performances on the fly and also also to accompany fellow musicians for an impromptu jam.
Students will be taught to play songs on the same time signature and Groves at the end of module 4.
Semester 4: This will be a comprehensive test of the what the student has achieved in the fourth Semester. It be a thorough practical test of students ability to perform the Drums like a professional.

Module 5 (1 Year)

World / Ethnic Percussions & Tone Innovations: The students will get to know the Ethnic Percussions from different parts of the world. They will learn to make their own special effects tones like Rain, Thunder, waves etc. will help them in Film post production.
The Drum Experience Module: This entire year will focus on live performances & Studio recording for students who will be playing in various venues and getting a real time experience of recording in a world class studio facility. They will be also exposed to sound training and Drum Mic Techniques.
Semester 5: This will be a performance test of the student in front of a Live Audience. Students will be judged on their ability and comfort level in this realtime situation. This is the ultimate step towards their successful careers ahead.
