Social Responsibility

At World Music Conservatory (WMC), we believe that there shouldn’t be any barrier to education. Be it social and economic challenges, such as income, or the challenges arising for individuals with special needs, such as visual impairment or autism, we believe that an education in music shouldn’t be just a dream for those interested.

WMC has been spreading smiles through SMILE Charitable Trust since 2015

We believe that support matters in life every day

SMILE Charitable Trust helps schools in improving their infrastructure and sanitation facilities. Additionally, SMILE Charitable Trust works actively in the field of educational welfare and supports underprivileged students who cannot afford quality education.

For me, transforming meant fixing a problem once and for all

Social Responsibility

How it all Started

It all started with the reunion of classmates after 3 decades.

SMILE Charitable Trust was founded by a group of classmates from Mountain View School, Chikmagalur.

A few of us decided to provide financial assistance for the weaker sections of society.

We came to the conclusion that the best way to do this would be to start an organization that facilitates providing quality education to young people from underprivileged backgrounds.

The story behind SMILE Swachalaya

"During my schooling days, I noticed a lot of schools with no proper toilets and whatever was there was very badly maintained. Since then, I strongly wanted to transform the sanitary conditions in schools.

According to me, transforming meant fixing a problem once and for all. That’s why we decided to not just construct toilets but also take up the responsibility of maintaining them.”

"Gopi & I were crystal clear from the beginning that we have to construct toilets specifically for the girl child.

However, when we went around inspecting rural schools, we realized that most schools were co-ed. It thus made sense to construct toilets for both.

When we hand over the new toilets, as is customary, we have the ribbon cut by the children.”

What We Do...

We start identifying schools in rural areas.
We also identify contractors who can not only complete the work efficiently but also guarantee us no major renovation for at least 15 years.

300 & counting...

We have made steady progress and since 2015, we have been able to construct 300+ toilet units in over 15 schools across Karnataka.

Not only did we construct, but we also maintain these toilets to ensure they remain in the same condition.

The SMILE USP

No separate toilets for teachers. This simple strategy has helped monitor the cleanliness and upkeep of the toilets.

The children are also instructed and reminded of the importance of keeping their environment and toilets clean.
